Abstract:ALICE, A Large Ion Collider Experiment, is the experiment at the CERNLHC dedicated to the exploration of strongly-interacting matter underextreme conditions of temperature and energy density. After recallingthe objectives of the heavy-ion scientific program, the presentknowledge on the properties on matter formed in heavy-ion collisionsat the LHC will be reviewed together with the unexpected resultsobtained in high multiplicity proton-proton and proton-Leadcollisions. The perspectives of this program on the short and longterm will finally be discussed.
